Overview
Espresso is a rollup-focused confirmation layer designed to enable assets to be connected and finalized in real time across fragmented financial and blockchain environments. Sequencers of individual Optimistic and ZK rollups submit the blocks they produce to the Espresso network, which rapidly confirms them within a few seconds using its native HotShot consensus and data availability layer. At the protocol level, only blocks confirmed by Espresso are allowed to be settled on Layer 1 networks such as Ethereum, while external chains, bridges, and messaging protocols can reference the latest state of multiple rollups in a consistent and real-time manner through Espresso.
