Overview
Band Protocol is a decentralized oracle platform. Because blockchains do not natively connect to information from the outside world, it can be difficult for on-chain applications to verify whether real-world data is being accurately reflected. An oracle is a system that delivers off-chain information to the blockchain in a reliable way. For blockchains with smart contract functionality, interaction with external data sources is essential, making oracles a critical infrastructure component. In particular, oracles can be used in DeFi to provide real-time price feeds and other rapidly changing data such as volume and supply metrics.
