Overview
Kadena is a fast and low-cost Proof-of-Work (PoW) smart contract platform. By adopting PoW, Kadena offers a differentiated approach compared to many next-generation smart contract platforms; the team claims that using a simpler consensus mechanism enables a more secure blockchain. Kadena uses a network architecture called Chainweb, where multiple blockchains are connected to form a “web,” and Kadena states that this structure allows the network’s transactions per second (TPS) to scale without limit. The Kadena Block Explorer ([https://explorer.chainweb.com/mainnet](https://explorer.chainweb.com/mainnet)) currently displays 20 chains. Kadena’s native asset, KDA, is used to pay transfer fees and for smart contract creation and execution. In addition, similar to Bitcoin and Ethereum, Kadena miners receive KDA as block mining rewards.
