Overview
LooksRare is a decentralized NFT marketplace operating on Ethereum. Because NFT trading history on OpenSea is transparently recorded on-chain, LooksRare attracted OpenSea users by allowing accounts that had traded at least 3 ETH worth of NFTs on OpenSea to claim LOOKS tokens when they listed NFTs on LooksRare. Unlike OpenSea, which is owned by a small group of shareholders, LooksRare positions itself as a community-owned NFT marketplace. LooksRare charges a 2% fee on all trades, and 100% of these fees are distributed daily to LOOKS stakers in the form of Wrapped Ether (WETH). However, rewards are not sent directly to users’ wallets; instead, they become claimable. When users claim and transfer the rewards, gas fees apply, but a “compounder” service allows users to convert rewards into LOOKS and restake them without paying gas. In addition, LOOKS stakers can also earn extra staking rewards paid in LOOKS.
