Overview
Perpetual Protocol is a decentralized exchange (DEX) for trading perpetual contracts. It supports AMM (automated market maker)-style trading similar to Uniswap. However, Perpetual Protocol uses a vAMM (virtual automated market maker) system: users’ underlying assets are held in a vault smart contract rather than in the AMM smart contract, and the vAMM operates as a virtual AMM as the name suggests. Perpetual Protocol implemented a faster and cheaper trading experience than Ethereum-based exchanges by leveraging the xDAI Layer 2 protocol, which has since been renamed to Gnosis Chain. PERP is the protocol’s native token and is used for governance voting, staking rewards, and receiving a share of trading fee revenue distributions.
