Somnia is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain designed to handle millions of transactions per second with sub-second finality, aiming to build a network infrastructure optimized for fully on-chain applications that require high throughput and low latency, such as social platforms, gaming, and metaverse applications. It adopts a multistream consensus architecture based on Autobahn BFT, separating data generation and propagation from consensus to improve efficiency. Somnia further accelerates performance through sequential execution, leveraging a custom EVM compiler and hardware-level parallelization to maximize transaction processing speed. By integrating IceDB, an ultra-fast deterministic database, the network maximizes read and write performance and delivers a high-performance execution environment capable of processing millions of TPS per core. In addition, techniques such as streaming compression and BLS signature aggregation minimize redundant data, reduce inter-node communication overhead, and enhance overall data throughput and storage efficiency. SOMI, Somnia’s native coin, is used for staking, gas fee payments, and governance.
