Overview
PayPal USD (PYUSD) is a U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Paxos Trust Company on behalf of PayPal, fully backed 1:1 by U.S. dollar deposits, short-term Treasuries, and cash equivalents, with monthly third-party reserve attestations published for full transparency. Originally launched on Ethereum in August 2023, PYUSD has expanded to Solana, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Stellar, with further reach across Aptos, Avalanche, and Tron via the LayerZero omnichain framework. Natively integrated into PayPal and Venmo for buying, holding, sending, and converting, it also supports developer-built application-specific stablecoins via the PYUSDx framework, with a circulating supply of approximately 2.8 billion tokens.
