Overview
Plasma is a Layer 1 blockchain designed for global stablecoin payments. It provides stablecoin-centric features such as zero-fee stablecoin (USD₮) transfers via a paymaster mechanism and customizable gas token contracts that allow users to pay gas fees with tokens other than XPL. Plasma utilizes its native consensus algorithm, PlasmaBFT, which is based on Fast HotStuff and parallelizes the propose–vote–commit phases to achieve fast finality and high throughput. XPL is used for network fee payments, validator rewards, and participation in governance.
